The Great Scenes # 6: Hero (2002)

Directed by Zhang Yimou

I mentioned Hero in an earlier post. It is one of my favorite films of the past decade and this is probably my favorite scene from the film in a film with A LOT of great scenes. This one actually got applause in the screening I went to, it was that beautiful. I personally think Hero is a better film than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The film is both visually fantastic and exciting and emotionally involving. I don't know why Miramax sat on this film for two years before releasing it to the States. All they had to do was say, "You liked Crouching Tiger? Check this out" then play a few seconds of this and it's sold. Try to see it on a high-quality DVD on the biggest screen you can find, if not in a theatrical screen. This youtube clip does the scene little justice.

Wow. This is incredibly awesome. Honestly I've never watched Hero before but it seems I need to check it out for sure.

Great scene that I still remember from this great movie, stunning use of a visual colour.

It's well made, bud I always found these scenes where they fly around and run on water and deflect arrows kinda silly. That's why this never did anything for me. :/

This is a great scene from a great movie. It's been ages since I watched this, or Crouching Tiger.

I just finished re watching the Seven Samurai last night, then I see this! So different yet so very very good! Its seems so odd watching this at first cause the last fight scene I had seen had been so realistic!

Oh...my!

This looks like a friggin' awesome movie! Admittedly, I wasn't THAT wowed by CTHD (Chow Yun Fat with no guns? Wire-Fu, Wire-Fu everywhere and EVERY friggin' patron in the theater acted as if it hasn't been around for, like, thirty or forty years.), but I do find the fight scenes to be well-done and the movie, as a whole, to be visually beautiful.

The House of Flying Daggers was pure romance-fu fluff. Serious. It was like they took the "main" love story from Crouching Tiger, then made THAT the ultimate focus of the movie.

Oh, and ninjas.

Hero though...THIS looks pretty friggin' good, the more I read 'bout it. Gotta get my hands on it sometime...

I'm Vietnamese and I dont like Chinese movies, they always try to propagate their nationalistic bias.
